The municipal government of Mariveles wants to institutionalize the annual inter-high school sports festival to produce athletes that can compete in various sports contests here and abroad.

This was gleaned from the municipal ordinance authored by Councilor Jester Ivan Ricafrente, chairman of committees on health and sanitation, rules and privileges, justice and ethics, and ordinances and legal matters.

The ordinance is anchored on the provision of the Philippine Constitution which provides that the state recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation-building and shall promote their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual, and social well-being.

The Sangguniang Kabataan Municipal Federation shall promulgate sports policies while the inter-high school sports festival council will be created to provide technical, logistical and clerical support to the sports festival members
